OBJECT HISTORY
Since the 13th century various forms of eye protection has existed in many different forms. Indigious people in North America and Northern Asia crafted highly efficient equipment to protect their eyes against the damaging effects of the strong sun in icy circumstances.
In the 12th century. Or possibly earlier, the first sun glasses made from flat panes were seen in China. In the 18th century, mirror like glasses were used by rich people to protect the eye from the glare from water and canals in Venice. In the late 18th century, designers experimented with tinted glasses similar to how we know them today. From the late 19th century, references to sunglasses have been found in reports and other texts, and by 1895, sunglasses were mentioned in advertisements. Later on the sunglasses developed into “UV protective” glasses, after it had been argued in 1899 by Jean-Marie Theodore Fieuzal that the eyes would benefit from being protected from UV light.
